MIAB, RAJUK
Year of Practice: 2009- Present
Specialization: Sustainable Design.
Shafique Rahman was born in Bangladesh in 1987, where he developed a strong interest in architecture at an early age, eventually becoming an educator and a committed practitioner to society and the environment. After completing his Bachelor of Architecture from Khulna University, Bangladesh, in 2012, he pursued a Master’s in Sustainable Design from the University of Sydney, Australia, in 2015. During his professional journey, he worked with Crawford Architects in Sydney, collaborating with international professionals on housing, refurbishment, and landscape design projects. In 2015, Shafique returned to Bangladesh and founded Trikon Architects, where the practice of environment-responsive architecture has become the core ideology. Leading a team of architects and engineers, he has overseen the completion of over 50 projects, ranging from small residences to large-scale public space architecture, earning recognition for their innovative contributions nationally and internationally.
Shafique Rahman is a Registered Architect and a Member of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) and Rajdhani Unnanyan Kartripakkha (RAJUK). He has held positions such as Member Secretary of the Environment and Urbanization Subcommittee in the 24th Executive Council of IAB and was a member of the Public Health Group in the Union of International Architects (UIA) from 2021 to 2023. His work integrates sustainable design principles with local cultural and environmental contexts ranging from residential and commercial buildings to institutional campuses and public spaces.
His commitment to architecture and urban development has earned him numerous accolades, including the 2nd position in the International Design Competition of the Architects Regional Council of Asia (ARCASIA) in 2020 and many others. His recent achievements are particularly noteworthy. Shafique Rahman won two prestigious national competitions: “Envisioning A Safe and Sustainable Life with Architecture for A Water Nomad Community in Bangladesh,” organized by IAB, OXFAM, and CNRS, and the highly esteemed “Purbachal International Convention Center (PICC)” competition, organized by IAB and RAJUK in 2024.
In addition to his practice, Rahman has contributed meaningfully to academia as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Architecture of AUST from 2016. He has published research on environmental sustainability, building materials, urban regeneration, and shape grammar in architecture. His work has been presented at international conferences such as ICMA Malaysia 2019, the International Urban Design Conference in China 2019, ArcAsia Dhaka 2019, and PLEA 2024 in Poland among others.
Shafique Rahman continues to influence the field through his architectural practice, research, and teaching, striving to create spaces that reflect a deep respect for both the built and natural environments.
