We are overjoyed that our dedication to innovation and excellence has been recognized on a global scale as we have been announced as the winner of the PURBACHAL INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTER (PICC) Competition. The competition has been organized by the Institute of Architects Bangladesh in association with the client Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakkha (RAJUK).
We were delighted to take part in this prestigious competition to conceptualize and design an innovative, sustainable, and functional international Convention Center, envisioned as a hub for local and global conferences, events, and gatherings. This competition gave us the opportunity to create a significant landmark for our city. The competition was launched on November 30, 2023, with the results announced on April 27, 2024. The total site area of the project is 9.46 acres and the built area of the project was 1,056,929.85 sqft. The assessment criteria for this project included urban space utilization, context and site planning, design innovation, climatic considerations, sustainability, and spatial organization. Notable features of the convention center include a vast public plaza, a 1000-person auditorium, six grand exhibition halls, parking facilities for 2,000 vehicles, and other public functions.
The esteemed panel of jurors included Architect Mohd. Asaduz Zaman (Sr. Vice President, Surbana International Consultants Pte. Ltd. Singapore), Architect Ehsan Khan (Principal, Ehsan Khan Architects Ltd. Bangladesh), Principal Ar. Naushad Ehsanul Haque (Associate Professor, Department of Architecture, University of Asia Pacific, Bangladesh), Architect Niklaus Graber (Co-founder of Graber & Steiger Architects, Lucerne, Switzerland), and Engr. Prof. Raquib Ahsan, Ph.D. (Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh).
We had approximately three months to work on this project, during which our team dedicated their utmost effort to developing conceptual ideas and refining the design through a process of trial and error. Among the 57 architectural offices that participated in this competition, our team at Trikon Architects was honored to be named the champion. The project is currently in the implementation phase in collaboration with RAJUK.
